Secure Shell, commonly known as SSH, is a cryptographic network protocol employed to execute commands on a remote hosting server or to exchange data between a server and a client. Because the info exchanged by the two sides is protected, a 3rd party won't be able to intercept it, which makes SSH a preferred means of handling a web hosting account. The commands that can be executed are determined by the type of hosting service. On a shared hosting server, in particular, the options are limited as you'll not have root access to the web server, so you can only create/move/delete files, create and unpack archives, import and export databases, and so forth. They're all actions which are carried out in the shared hosting account and do not require a higher level of access. With a virtual or a dedicated server, you shall be able to set up server-side software or to restart the hosting server or just a certain service (web server, database server, etc.). SSH commands are submitted via a command line, but if you don't use a UNIX-like Operating System, there are a lot of apps for other OSs, you can use to connect to the remote web server as well.
SSH Telnet in Shared Hosting
SSH access is available with all shared hosting service we provide. With some of them, it is provided by default, while with others it is an optional upgrade that you can add with a few clicks from your web hosting Control Panel. You may get SSH access from the section related to it in which you will also find the info which you need to connect - the host, the port number and the username. You could choose the password that you shall use and, if necessary, you will be able to change it with a couple of clicks from the same place. All commands which could be used with our shared plans are listed inside a help article along with relevant examples. If the SSH access feature is allowed for your account, you will also be able to upload files using your preferred FTP client via an SFTP connection.
SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Servers
When you have a semi-dedicated server account with us, you'll be able to obtain SSH access to it with only a mouse click from the corresponding section of the Hepsia hosting Control Panel, supplied with all accounts. If your package doesn't support this function by default, you shall be able to include it easily through the Upgrades menu. After you go to the SSH section, you shall find the details which you need to connect to the server through a command line or a desktop app - the server/host, the port number, the username and the password. The latter may be updated anytime, if necessary. These login credentials are also essential if you'd like to upload files using a secure connection and you wish to use SFTP, which is also part of the SSH access service we offer you. A complete list of the commands you can execute will offer you a better idea of what tasks you may perform in your account and each one is accompanied by a couple of examples of the syntax.
SSH Telnet in VPS Servers
You shall be able to use SSH to handle your content irrespective of which VPS servers you choose when you sign up, due to the fact that all our plans come with this feature by default. You'll not have to add or allow anything by hand - the instant your server is ready and you get the Welcome email with the login information, you can connect and begin working on your sites or any software you want to install and run on the machine. You will have root-level access to the VPS and due to the fact that the account shall be separated from all of the other accounts inside the physical hosting server, you shall be able to do anything you want with no restrictions. You'll be able to set up any app that you need and that shall work on a Linux-based machine, restart any software server (web, database, game, media, etc.) and handle your files and databases efficiently.
